CI Personal & Professional Skills

Science on the GO! internship provided me with the opportunity to immerse myself in a fully Australian working culture, enhancing both personal and professional skills.

Communication

  • Collaborated effectively with managers, hosts, other interns, teachers from various
schools, students (Prep to Year 12), and their parents.
  • Developed listening skills, particularly when translating non-technical feedback from a manager into data solutions.

Data Analysis

  • Gained hands-on experience with Python for cleaning and organizing spreadsheets from 2006-2023 into a combined event log.
  • Used KNIME, Excel, and Power BI to process data and create visualizations, showcasing trends by region, gender, and Indigenous groups.
  • Improved the ability to align data processing with non-technical user needs, adjusting visual reports based on feedback.

Public Speaking

  • Hosted science experiments for young children, adapting language to their level and boosting confidence in public speaking.

Problem-Solving

  • Solved problems flexibly by addressing questions from teachers and parents.
  • Proactively offered assistance and anticipated potential challenges, raising them with my manager.

Professional Development

  • Grew more confident in speaking, communicating, and providing value in a professional setting.
  • Became familiar and comfortable with the Australian working culture, contributing to my overall professional growth.
